Rubixanthin benefit
Rubixanthin is found in a number of flowers, herbs and fruits.
Analysis of carotenoid composition in petals of
calendula (Calendula officinalis L.).
Biosci Biotechnol Biochem. 2005 Nov; National Institute of Floricultural
Science, Ibaraki, Japan.
Nineteen carotenoids were identified in extracts of petals of orange- and
yellow-flowered cultivars of calendula (Calendula officinalis L.). Ten
carotenoids were unique to orange-flowered cultivars. The UV-vis absorption
maxima of these ten carotenoids were at longer wavelengths than that of
flavoxanthin, the main carotenoid of calendula petals, and it is clear that
these carotenoids are responsible for the orange color of the petals. Lycopene,
gamma-carotene, and rubixanthin has never before been identified.
Carotenoid pigments in Rosa mosqueta hips, an
alternative carotenoid source for foods.

Alimentos, Instituto de la Grasa (CSIC), Avenida Padre García Tejero 4, 41012

Carotenoid composition has been investigated in Rosa mosqueta hips (Rosa
rubiginosa, Rosa eglanteria). Six major carotenoids were identified
beta-carotene, lycopene, rubixanthin, gazaniaxanthin, beta-cryptoxanthin, and
zeaxanthin.
Carotenoids from guava (Psidium guajava l.): isolation
and structure elucidation.
J Agric Food Chem. 1999 Jan; Mercadante AZ, Steck A, Pfander H. Departamento de
Ciência de Alimentos, Faculdade de Engenharia de Alimentos, Universidade
Estadual de Campinas, CP 6121, CEP 13083-970, Campinas, Brazil.
Sixteen carotenoids were isolated from the flesh of Brazilian red guavas (Psidium
guajava L.). The carotenoids were identified as phytofluene, beta-carotene,
gamma-carotene, lycopene, beta-cryptoxanthin, rubixanthin, (cryptoflavin,
lutein, neochrome. Thirteen of the carotenoids identified are reported as guava
carotenoids for the first time.
